The
conference, open to the general public, features a public
Council of Women Elders, a broad spectrum of workshops
on social and environmental awareness and responsibility,
and an Honoring Ceremony for “Women of Age and
Wisdom”.
A
key intention of the conference is seeding and strengthening
the coming together of individuals for the betterment
and stewardship of our world. This includes a focus
on personal growth and co-creativity. Numerous networking,
mentoring, and community building opportunities will
be available, both at the conference and on-line.
This
event is multicultural and intergenerational, bringing
together a diversity of people for the well-being of
the Earth - everyone is welcome. You
can support the Grandmother Council
by becoming a sponsor, advertising,
or having a booth at this
event.
The Grandmother Council
The
Grandmother Council honors the women elders of our community.
This council is composed of women who have been nominated
by individuals or organizations for outstanding service
in supporting the healing and well-being of individuals,
the local or global community, and/or the environment.
In addition to the council being held at the conference
itself, an ongoing council of women elders is also currently
forming.
We
invite interested women elders to contact
us to be notified of meeting times.

Grandmother Council Commemorative Painting:
"A Bouquet of Grandmothers"

by
Madelaine Sklar
Artist's
Statement:
The
symbolism of the painting "A Bouquet of Grandmothers":
The vision of them came to me in a dream. The 13 grandmothers
of the luner year are abstract and spiral shaped because
they represent energy centers, archytipal energies.
Some, almost hidden are finally beginning to emerge.
Their energy which has for eons been surpressed is once
again comming forth to reclaim that which was lost.
It is coming forth to make whole that which was shattered.
At the center of the bouquet is the fire of life, light,
spirit of creation and love which the grandmothers,
keepers of the light, have protected and held for all.
In the darkness that surrounds them is the mystery:
that which has passed, and that which is yet to be born.
I have been an artist my entire life. My adoptive
mother, Mary Sklar, had an infallible eye. The best
times I spent with her, were spent going to art
museums, viewing and discussing art and sharing my
creations with her. My other influence was Frida
Khalo, who's pictures hung in our house. I first met
Frida, when I was little and I imagined her to be my
real mother. Other artists whose work I love, who also
influenced my eye: are Arshel Gorky, Matisse, Chagal,
Miro, the Japanese brush paintings and prints, Elenore
Lockspiser, and Iris Crump. My other inspritions are
music and love. And the dance of this dream, life.
Being a grandmother has woven the fate of my own happiness
even more, evermore in with the fate of our beautiful
delicate world. For all who I love. For all that I love.
For Love. All my relations, Madeleine Rose Sklar, M.S.
